How to Make a Resume for a Job in Guwahati

Short answer: Keep it to one page for freshers and two at most for experienced candidates. Lead with a short summary naming the role you want, then skills, then experience or projects in reverse order. Name your software and languages explicitly, save as PDF with your own name as the file name, and tailor the top section for each application.

A CV has one job: to get you an interview. It will not get you hired on its own, and it does not need to tell your whole story.

The structure that works

1. Name and contact details

Your name, a phone number you actually answer, and a professional email address. priya.das.work@gmail.com is fine; a nickname from school is not. Add your locality — “Bhangagarh, Guwahati” — because employers here do consider commute.

No need for full postal address, date of birth, father’s name or marital status. They take space and add nothing.

2. A summary line, tailored

Three lines at the top, changed for each application:

B.Com graduate with Tally certification seeking an Accounts Assistant role in Guwahati. Comfortable with billing, ledger entries and Excel. Available to join immediately.

This is the only part you need to rewrite per application, and it is the part most candidates skip.

3. Skills

Be specific. Employers scan for the exact thing they asked for.

  • Software: Tally Prime, MS Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables), MS Word
  • Languages: Assamese, Hindi, English — note which you write as well as speak
  • Other: typing speed, two-wheeler licence

Avoid “good communication skills” and “hardworking”. Everyone writes them; nobody believes them.

4. Experience, most recent first

For each role: job title, employer, dates, then two or three bullets about what you actually did and any result. Numbers help — volume handled, team size, targets met.

If you are a fresher, replace this section with Projects, Training and Volunteering. Our guide on writing a CV with no experience covers it.

5. Education

Degree, institution, year. Percentage or CGPA if it is good. Freshers can put this above experience.

6. Certifications

Tally, computer courses, spoken English, anything relevant with institute and year.

Local details that help in Guwahati

Your languages. For customer-facing roles, being comfortable in Assamese, Hindi and English is a genuine advantage — and many candidates forget to mention it.

Your locality. Employers factor in whether you can reliably reach the office.

A two-wheeler and licence. Essential for field sales; worth stating if you have one.

Willingness to relocate, if you have it. It removes a hesitation for employers outside the city.

Formatting

  • One column. Two-column and graphical templates look modern and parse badly.
  • A standard font at 10–12pt.
  • Consistent dates in one format throughout.
  • PDF, unless the employer asks otherwise.
  • A sensible file name: Rahul-Bordoloi-CV.pdf.

If you are applying through any system that may parse your CV automatically, read our guide on ATS-friendly resumes before formatting.

Before you send it

Read it aloud — you will catch awkward phrasing you skim past silently. Have someone else check spelling, especially your own phone number and email. Then confirm the summary line actually names the role you are applying for.

When it is ready, drop your CV and we will review it against current openings.

Key takeaways

  • One page for freshers; two only if you genuinely have the experience.
  • Name specific software and languages — vague claims are ignored.
  • Tailor the summary line per application; you do not need a whole new CV.
  • Save as PDF, named with your own name.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I include a photo on my CV?

It is common in India and many Guwahati employers expect one, particularly for customer-facing roles. If you include one, use a plain passport-style photograph with a neutral background. If you are applying through an online system that parses CVs automatically, a photo can interfere with parsing — in that case, leave it out.

How long should my CV be?

One page if you are a fresher or have under three years of experience. Two pages is the maximum for most roles. Length signals judgement: a two-page fresher CV usually reads as padding rather than substance.

Should I mention my expected salary on my CV?

No. It either prices you out before anyone has met you, or anchors you below what the employer would have offered. If an application form requires a figure, "negotiable" is a reasonable answer. Salary is a conversation for the offer stage.
